The importance of sustainable fashion

The importance of sustainable fashion

In a sustainable world, people, the environment and the economy are in balance with one another. As a result, we can not only meet our needs now, but also keep the earth liveable for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But how exactly does that work in the world of fashion?

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important, and fashion is no exception. Yet the clothing industry is currently the second most polluting industry in existence. When you look around on the street, we can clearly see that fast fashion unfortunately still has the upper hand. We all too often opt for cheap clothing that you only wear a few times. And even if you wanted to wear your new trousers or jumper for longer, you probably wouldn't be able to. Because for that price, you simply can't guarantee good quality.

Fortunately, things can be done differently. Are you going for sustainable fashion? Then you'll choose fewer pieces in your wardrobe and very consciously select the pieces that do hang there. In addition, you'll be willing to pay the right price for them, so that the environment, among other things, doesn't bear the brunt. By thinking more consciously about your style and the combinations you want to make, you'll opt for beautiful basic pieces that are slightly more expensive but also last longer.

Capsule wardrobe

Away with that overstuffed wardrobe with seven red jumpers and thirty pairs of jeans. With a limited number of garments that you can easily combine, you'll create a capsule wardrobe step by step. This way, you'll instantly get more overview in your wardrobe and more peace of mind. What's more, you'll be paying attention to good working conditions and animal welfare, and you'll have a much smaller impact on the planet. Nothing but benefits, then!

So how do you go about starting a sustainable wardrobe? With the collections from VEST, you're off to a good start. Our Belgian knitwear brand consciously opts for timeless designs, but thanks to the striking colours, our jumpers, sweaters and cardigans still have a contemporary character. We bet you'll happily make room for these handmade pieces that remind you of the jumpers your grandmother used to knit for you?
